nice to see espn2 get some later games. That HD makes such a difference with viewing the sport. C’mon FSC HD get with directv on this stuff!

I broke the news in February that ESPN would be showing more games on TV during the 2010-11 season, but until the final TV schedules for FSC, FS+ and ESPN come out, or unless they issue a press release, we won’t know for sure until then.

The article about ESPN getting more Premier League games for the 2010-11 season can be found at: http://www.epltalk.com/espn-reaches-deal-to-show-more-premier-league-games-in-u-s-exclusive/15705

It’s possible that either ESPN or FSC may have had a change of heart in terms of how many EPL games ESPN is showing this upcoming season. We’ll just have to wait and see.

      Cheers,

Wasn’t it rumored ESPN2 was going to get the early Sunday matches? Or that they were going to increase the number of games from last season? Has that changed?

CR7, for the opening weekend of the Premier League, ESPN2 doesn’t have the Monday game listed on their TV schedule, so we can’t presume ESPN2 will still have the Monday fixtures at this time. Plus, last season ESPN2 was able to use the ESPN feed from their UK team, so it was a very ESPN-centric broadcast. This year, ESPN in the UK does not have the rights to the Monday matches. Sky Sports does. ESPN2 could still show those games using the TWI/IMG international feed, but until I know for sure, I can’t say.

Please more ESPN2, FSC in SD is practically unwatchable after all the beautiful World Cup viewing we are enjoying.

I am really hoping for the early Sat and Sun games on ESPN2. That would be so helpful in avoiding FSC and I even pay for Fox Soccer Plus.

That would be really nice. At the moment, my wife and I have given up cable TV to help economize. With espn3, I can still watch quite a few matches. I should be able to swing it for FoxSoccer.tv, but I want to see if it is worth my while. I think it would if it included both the Fox Soccer channels.

        Hey Gaffer,

I believe I saw on your Premier League TV Schedule last year that every game was on FoxSoccer.tv if it wasn’t on regular TV. So did they change their policy since then or was I mistaken in seeing all of those games listed on FoxSoccer.tv?

        Thanks,

Ok, excuse me if I seem dense… but what you are saying is that foxsoccer.tv actually should cover the most games? i.e., all EPL games that don’t make ESPN or FSC?

Also, will espn3.com cover all the EPL games that espn2 does (kind of like they do with MLS?).

It’s a shame that the Chelsea vs WesBrom is going to be on FSC. I just read an article on ESPNsoccernet about how ESPN Live coverage for ESPN UK is kicking off at that game and they are increasing the number of cameras from 16 to 23 and all the pre/half/post game commentary, and the sideline reporting they will have. I can’t wait for the rights of the EPL to go back up for bid and ESPN grabs them from Fox.

FoxSoccer.tv should cover most of the games. However, the biggest games of the season are typically on Fox Soccer Channel and ESPN2. So those games will not be on FoxSoccer.tv unless there’ll be changes announced in the next few weeks.

As of right now, ESPN3.com does not have the online rights to the games that are shown on ESPN2. Those games are not available online (live, legally) in the United States.

Have FSC, FS+ and ESPN said which time slots they’re receiving this upcoming season? Are they not even doing it that way at all (instead hand picking which matches they want/don’t want)? Just curious because ESPN doesn’t release their programming schedule this far in advance yet you have the information.

if you click “all” for “soccer” in the upcoming tab and scroll down you will start to see English Premier Leauge listed on ESPN3. I think that they could indeed be showing EPL games that are on the ESPN TV channels as well. Somebody confirm this for me. But if ESPN3 is showing replays of EPL games I might just forgoe a foxsoccer.tv subscription this year and be content with ESPN3 and Footytube. (I dont have cable TV)

    Gaffer,
Any news on ESPN3.com? The ESPN MediaZone site is listing EPL games on ESPN3 in August. Is this a typo or have they acquired the online rights to the games ESPN2 will be showing?
They did a super job with the WC – it would be great to see them start to stream EPL. Also from the info you have it looks like FoxSoccer.tv will continue to not show live games that air on Fox Soccer Channel – last year they delayed them until 12 midnight EST. That leaves the online options, post Setanta, pretty light

I have a message in to ESPN, but I haven’t heard from them yet. I see the same games you see in the schedule, although they’re listed as taped, not live, but that may be a mistake. Also no word from FoxSoccer.tv regarding changes as of yet, but I usually interview a representative from Fox, GolTV and ESPN before each season to discuss all of the latest developments regarding programming for the new season. I hope to do that again this summer.

To follow up on earlier comment of yours – if all the “biggest” games are going to air on Fox Soccer Channel and ESPN2 (and the early schedule seems to indicate that), then what is the appeal of Fox Soccer Plus? If you are a rugby fan then the rugby coverage makes it attractive but for soccer only fans it would seem to have a limited appeal. It almost seems that the Fox Soccer channel should be the premium and the Fox Soccer plus the subscription. Do you have any insights?

As of August 9 espn3.com has taken down their listing of all EPL games. Gaffer, do you know if that’s an oversight or if they’ve realized they don’t have the rights to the internet content? I wish ESPN or someone would work out a good HD package of on-demand live and replay internet EPL content. The WC in HD on demand this summer was fantastic, I’ve rewatched half of the WC to bridge the gap until this weekend.
