twitter fail whale 6 Famous Premier League Footballers On Twitter

We’ve searched Twitter to find some of the top players in the Premier League who we recommend you follow on Twitter. After reviewing these, you may think that some of them are fake accounts but we’re pretty certain they’re all real, or at least the vast majority are.

Here are six famous Premier League footballers on Twitter (in no specific order):

  1. Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) – 15,303 followers – One of the biggest names in English football is on Twitter. He’s only sent 8 tweets as of press time, most of which are pretty harmless, but let’s hope he gets inspired this summer and during next season to post more insightful tweets.
  2. Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) – 3,239 followers – “Folks asking why I’m not on facebook,” said Wayne Rooney in a recent tweet. “and I prefer [Twitter] really cos it seems more of a community thing.” So sayeth Rooney who gets more personal than Gerrard on Twitter. The Man United and England striker tweets mostly about his reaction to how well he played (or not) for his club and country.
  3. Jonathan Woodgate (Tottenham Hotspur) - 936 followers – Who doesn’t love a footballer who admits on Twitter that he helped show his mother how to use YouTube? Jonathan Woodgate tweets about that experience and communicates directly with many Spurs fans showing that as well as being a classy defender, he also knows how to effectively use Twitter.
  4. Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United) – 1,727 followers – Whether he’s basking in the sun in ridiculous shorts or being a fixture of Manchester United’s defense, Ferdinand can be occasionally found tweeting. Most of his tweets are in response to questions and comments made by Manchester United supporters.
  5. Brad Guzan (Aston Villa) – 251 followers – The number two goalkeeper for Aston Villa takes Twitter’s 140 character limit to the extreme with the majority of his posts consisting of two to three words. Nevertheless, Guzan offers some insights into his travels with the Villa and US national team.
  6. Peter Crouch (Portsmouth) – 51 followers – The Portsmouth and England striker has unfortunately been neglecting his Twitter account and has only posted a few times in the last several months hence the low number of followers. Let’s hope “Crouchy’s Having His Nachos” does better in the Twitter department during the 2009-2010 season.

Which famous Premier League footballers are missing from the list that you know are on Twitter? Post them in the comments below.

Last, but not least, be sure to follow EPL Talk on Twitter for the latest updates from me about anything and everything Premier League-related as well as a few updates now and again about what happens behind the scenes at this blog.

I’m still not 100% sure but I still THINK this is Cristiano Ronaldo’s twitter. Some of his posts are kind of goofy but he is a goofy *!@#$!*% anyways so… there ya go.

Only the Brad Guzan account has been verified as real. The rest look like fakes.
