I'm a United fan, but I agree with what you say. There was once a time when "players" were attracted to a club for the "success" and ambience of belonging to that club - pulling on the famous red shirt (or whatever colour) and wanting to be part of it (glory glory and all that). Today players are going for the "money" and not the club. Are we now breeding money-hungry players will no allegiance to ANY club, only the chequebook ??? If so, it's a very sad day for football.

The richest teams in the world aren't the ones that can purchase the biggest players in the world its the teams that can afford to pay their players the most.

For any club buying a superstar they can afford to splash out every now and then for a superstar but the problem is balancing your checkbooks when you have to pay a megastar on a weekly basis.

City don't have to worry about that they can afford to pay their players and don't have to balance their chequebooks. City can afford to lose millions a year in player wages and thats something only Barcelona, Real Madrid and City can do.

Every other big team in the world can certainly muster the money to purchase these heavyweights but the sticking issue is trying to make more money than your paying in player wages.

Not many teams are capable of holding onto a star studded team for that reason so despite the homebred bullshit argument you hear the richest teams in the world are the ones holding onto the most expensive players and thats something City will be able to do in the future.
