Good to see Denilson get a cameo at the end as well. If the injuries to our midfield keep up, we’ll need him to be in serviceable form.

Arshavin was the man of that match. Bendtner did what he does best – be in the right place at the right time – but didn’t create his own opportunities, and he frequently disappointed on the wings. Nasri had moments of magic, and a moment of sheer brilliance, but in only came in bursts. (I would have preferred to see him switch places with Rosicky; I feel Nasri’s pace is better served to the wing, whereas Rosicky is strong in possession and passing.) Meanwhile, Arshavin commanded respect from the entire Porto defense, whether actually creating goals or making runs to create space for the rest of the attack.

song has been the unsung hero in arsenal’s recent revival. he gives the arsenal midfield what it’s been missing since the departure of flamini, and provides balance to the more obvious talents of fabregas, asharvin and vermaelen. wednesday’s performance suggested that there may be life for the gunners after cesc leaves for barca.
enjoyed this post, especially after that nonsense from jesse chula.

against Porto was arguably the best all season, in particular Nicklas Bendtner. Now as an Arsenal fan, I find I am regularly trying ways (with work colleagues) to defend the inclusion of Bendtner who deserved his hat-trick, to be blunt he is frustrating, very frustrating. But at the same time Arsenal fans best get used to it!! “Why?” I hear is the cry? Because ‘number 52? is the only man in Wenger’s locker who hasn’t got twinkle ‘Fred Astaire’ toes and runs like a Road Runner! He does however hold the ball up well, allows Arsenal to play a more direct approach and has a knack of getting in the right place to score (or miss as he did against Burnley) goals.

His first and second goals on Tuesday night were evidence of that, the first was a sheer desire to get there before the Porto defence – thanks to Arshavin’s tenacity – and the 2nd was knowing exactly what the Russian was going to do, right place, right time.
