fa cup trophy Barnsley Knock Chelsea Out of FA CupThe final whistle has just blown and Barnsley has achieved one of the biggest shocks in recent FA Cup memory by defeating Chelsea 1-0 at Oakwell.

In the previous round, Barnsley beat Liverpool. The Yorkshire club are now heading to Wembley to compete in the FA Cup semi-final. What an amazing achievement for the side who sit sixth from bottom in the Championship.

After today’s earlier shock when Portsmouth beat Manchester United 1-0, the final four in the FA Cup now comprises Portsmouth, Barnsley and the winners of Middlesbrough/Cardiff and Bristol Rovers/West Bromwich Albion.

What a wonderful year for the FA Cup. With all of the big four clubs being knocked out of the tournament, it’ll be a fascinating 2008 final and a wonderful opportunity to see different sides walking out at Wembley.

Whatever outcome and even though my team is long gone, this is probably turning out as the best FA Cup in my lifetime.
