Really nice interview, good to hear a little more about what goes on behind the scenes in Bill T land. Didn't realize the hours you put into the maps in the early days. Holy moses, 40 hours! That is dedication. Keep up the great work!

I love his work and have used his maps often for many years.

More importantly I am relieved to hear that it is not just people in my immediate circle who watched the NFL in 1980s and does not today. It's hardly even the same game or league. For those of you who do watch the NFL now unlike me, trust me you would have enjoyed the league in the 1980s much more than you do today.

Bill T. here…thanks kkfla737….about the NFL: I feel like the suits in charge have destroyed a great institution. I blame Fox for a lot of it. Funny, you could also blame a lot of the domestic, economic, and overseas involvement problems that the USA faces today on Fox News, and the right-wing, crypto-fascist mentality they champion. And it's ironic that a branch of the Murdoch empire is Fox Soccer Channel, and I can't find much at all to compalin about with that network.

I completely agree! When FOX got the NFC rights the whole feel of the league changed for the worse. Fox News parrots the GOP talking points and Murdoch has ruined the Times of London and the NY Post.

FSC must be something he's truly not interested in otherwise it would go down the same way as his other media properties.

Yep, it absolutely must be political. Everything is. I think it's George W. Bush's fault Pompey's pitch was frozen over the weekend.

I didn't say the increase in TV commercials was political. It's greed, elephant fan.

Great article, especially on the NFL and the fact that I feel like I am watching a 3 1/2 hour long infomercial when I see a game today. I am the only soccer fan in my family, but when I ask my brother and father if they enjoy watching the whole production, I usually get a “Hmmmmmmmm…..”

Also, I like the old George Will quote — “Football represents two of the worst ideas of AMerican society — spasms of violence and committee meetings”
