It’s going to be interesting to see what England do with their keeper situation. I think it’s absolutely crucial to have a good commander between the goal posts and (to me at least) it seems most keepers in England are systematically taking themselves out of the running with shaky play. Prime examples: Paul Robinson and Ben Foster

Now this may make me seem abit daft but, why dosn’t Capello give the one Stevie Harper a look? He’s been amazing in the championship letting in something like only 12 goals thus far and has had some amazing saves. Even if he isn’t in contention for being a starter, I think the other younger keepers and defense could benefit his experience by just having him there.

I said as much 2 months ago and was roundly castigated for suggesting such a thing when extolling the virtues of Robinson s’ current form at the time.

Mind you, Robinson hasn’t been helped by Blackburn’s play in general really, but I’d still take him as one of the 3.

Ahh I missed that article. Wish I was around to defend your Stevie Harper comments. I really think he is a quality guy on and off the pitch and deserves at least a couple looks or something. Yes, he primarialy served under Given and he is currently only in the championship but I dont think that really detracts from how well he’s played when Given was injured and his current form he’s got going this season. Worse things have happend than playing behind Given. Given is an excellent international, not like he was playing behind Ben Foster or Robert Green.

I agree he (Robinson) hasn’t exactly been helped by Blackburns play but he’s a guy that seems to lack confidence in his play and make quite a few random costly errors. I’m not saying the guy isn’t a good player because he’s one of the best in England. I just believe he isn’t the answer for England this World Cup as a starter.

If it were my choice, not that it matters but my shortlist would be
        1.Joe Hart
        2.Steve Harper
        3.Paul Robinson

  2. Bishopville Red.

Joe Hart looks pretty good with Birmingham, but let in some dicey goals at the U-21 European Cup last summer, a tournament he should have dominated, considering his EPL pedigree. He did make some fine saves, but his play was a bit spotty. Does not help his chances.

Joe Hart has made great strides this season, and it seems like he’s really matured, and has stopped making the silly mistakes that are burying the chances of the other GKs mentioned (Green, Robinson, James, Foster).

Also the real question is, if not Joe Hart, then who?
