Very good article,Scolari has not had the best of luck at all and he has had injury problems-Essian having the biggest effect.Chelsea is an ageing side and time has caught up with them.Drogba who is an older player used to menace defences is clearly off the boil and is simply not delivering at all.

Their lack of activity in the transfer market, summer and winter, has been odd. I questioned the Deco signing from the beginning. They already had an overstocked midfield and I thought they needed help in other areas -- i.e. a striker who won't become a disruptive force on the team.

The more I think about it, the timing of the move is a bit odd. They would have been better off sacking him in January and allowing one or two new faces to be brought in and a couple shipped out to change the chemistry a little.

Good summary of the situation. I agree with your assessment on Terry. Furthermore, Terry has, in my opinion, always been vastly overrated.

Though I am not at all shocked by the sacking of Scolari, I think that he also had some bad luck. I've long pointed to the importance Maka had on his side (look what happened when he left Madrid for Chelsea)...obviously he was let go because he was well long in the tooth. Scolari not only is without the luxury of having Makelele, he's also missing Essien, who I would say besides maybe Lampard, is Chelsea's best player.

The Robinho fiasco was also a stroke of bad luck for Scolari. Ultimately the only player he brought in this summer was Deco, another aging player, to add to a quickly aging squad.
Though I don't want to go as far as saying Robinho would be the cure all for Chelsea's woes, he would definately add some potency to the left side of attack over Malouda/Kalou/Anelka (when he was deployed on the wing).

I guess Fergy was right saying Chelsea had peaked..

I feel bad for Chelsea fans, as it seems no one on the team gives a shit besides Lampard.
