i love some of the comments/thoughts of people who state things in absolutes. and keep dreaming about liverpool falling out of the league. stuff like that makes me disregard everything else you say.

this is going to be a different year, with more teams like b'ham beating tottenham, liverpool struggling then beating manU, burnley getting crushed by wigan but beating manU, sunderland beating liverpool but losing the next week to b'ham and so on.

all the overreactions of the insane are laughable at best.

I think any of the traditional top 4 teams finishing out of the top 4 is exactly what the league needs.

On the one hand, being a Spurs fan, I'd love to see them out of the top four. I also suspect, for what it is worth, that they will indulge me in this desire. Indeed, part of me feels like Liverpool dropping, first to the championship, and then to the depths that former top flight stalwarts like Leeds and Nottingham find themselves in, would be a good thing for the English game, since it might help open powerful eyes to the increasingly untenable finances of English football. Speaking practically, one perhaps should consider that
a) Villa are as thin as the reds
b) Spurs current game (scoring, not defending) cannot be sustained through the winter months
c) Mark Hughes is not tactically sharp enough to lead Man City upward

I would guess, therefore, that Liverpool will make it If and only if the ownership supports Benitez in the winter window, and they shore up the back.

Sarah you make sense again - whether you're a real person or not. I will still hold Rafa responsible for not holding on or bringing in a quality second striker.

Bye to Rafa would be a terrible mistake. Liverpool FC have been punching above their weight since Rafa took over. LFC are currently 5th in both wages and transfer fees. This is the first year that Rafa has had control over transfers for senior and youth players, and he has had to do that by selling 40m+ and buying 34m+, and this doesn't even include canceled payments from the Crouch transfer or the money that was gained from the Robbie Keane sale.

If not getting into the top 4 means that LFC gets new and improved owner, then I think that is a trade off that every intelligent LFC supporter would take. I just hope that the potential of missing out on the top 4 is enough to create panic with the RBC and the owners, so that they sell up and move onto their next project, of at the very worst dilute their shareholdings beyond 50%. I have to say it, but RBC, we told you so, you have once again been duped by Hicks and Gillett.

Regardless if Spurs or Man City start to slide in form. They can always look to spend in the Jan window and improve the team.

The same thing can't be said for Liverpool. Are the cheap owners really want to go throwing more money into the team to chase CL money, when they might be several points off the 4th spot. Or will they have to save any potential money they had penciled for their Jan-window transfer budget, and use it to pay off their yearly interest calls.

Unfortuantely, with the club being saddled with so much debt, it is imperative that Liverpool does indeed finish in the top 4 and receive money from participating in the CL. Finishing out of the top 4 could spell dire circumstances for the club.

Asif, your first statement actually made sense - I would take more losses if it means less draws and more losses any day.

Winning the Title or taking the team in that direction is what a Liverpool manager is paid to do, not finishing "in the top four."

This obsession with just "finishing in the top four" has been the worst thing to happen to Liverpool the last 10 years. I could care less if Liverpool finishes 7th, or 5th in a given year, as long as they're champions the following season or two.

Another Liverpool supporter closing their eyes. "Personally I think that Liverpool will get their act together and will most likely get the 4th spot as I don’t see Spurs having the staying power and if Man City lose any key players to injury they too could be short but what do you guys think?"

Ridiculous statement. Man City is much deeper than Liverpool (and can buy more in January if needed - can Liverpool do that?). You also left off Aston Villa, who are also better, and deeper, than Liverpool.

Its just another one of them seasons....Instead of 12 draws and 2 losses were gonna have 6 defeats and 2 draws this season and finish 2nd....

Nah, but on a serious note, our season has had a terrible start...and we really need to get a run going and get back up there...its just a matter of time i guess..as soon as the players are back to full fitness i'm sure we'll do what we do every year...

but if we finish below 4th, i have to say its time to say bye to Rafa. As much as i think he is a great manager, to not win the title in 5 years is not good enough. So much money has been wasted, players in and out, its just not acceptable..
