England Considers United States As Friendly Opponent

David Beckham wearing American flagThe U.S. national team is now favorites to play England in an international friendly on May 28th, 2008 according to the News of the World and Sunday Mirror newspapers.

The specific article is short on detail and doesn’t attribute the news source to anyone, but the match could up being the stage for David Beckham’s 100th England cap if the LA Galaxy midfielder isn’t selected to play against France in England’s next international in March.

If scheduled, the friendly would presumably occur at London’s Wembley Stadium. May 28th had originally been lined up for a friendly against Scotland at Wembley, so it’s safe to assume — if the story is valid — that the United States would play the match at Wembley.

Coincidentally, the last time England played the United States in a friendly was the exact same time of the year in 2005 when England won 2-1 in Chicago on May 28.
