Meet The Writers

Meet the regular contributors of EPL Talk:

Sam Dalton was born in New Zealand but moved to England when he was 18 months old. He currently lives in Oxfordshire. He’s a massive Liverpool fan, and plays for an under 16’s side named Cumnor Minors where he plays centre back. His ambition is to become a football journalist in the United Kingdom.

Paul Bestall is a long suffering Tottenham and Barcelona fan with an addiction to football played in all corners of the world. He lives in Sheffield, and thankfully likes the long train journeys to London to see his beloved Spurs. Enjoys reading a wide range of subjects from politics to cryptozoology, cinema, NFL, NBA and MLB and likes trying to fill his iPod, Adidas trainers and Marvel Comics.

Jesse Chula. Hailing from Lexington, KY, USA, but raised in Palm Bay, FLA, Jesse spends his day as an Advertising Sales Consultant, but the majority of his time is spent watching & analyzing football matches from his couch. When he’s not screaming at his television, he’s enjoying music, film, books & of course writing for EPL Talk. He dreams of traveling Europe & feels if he ever makes it over, he’ll likely never come back. He overwhelmingly prefers the British Office to the American Office & a knee injury in the Fall of ‘06 playing indoor Soccer ruined what was sure to be a professional career. Jesse studied Business at Eastern Kentucky University before receiving a degree in Criminal Justice. He aspires to write for a living.

Tyler Duffy is a freelance writer and graduate student in journalism based in New York City.  Along with writing for EPLTalk, he serves as a soccer and baseball writer for The Big Lead He also earned a moderate amount of fame during the Halcyon days of the Guardian’s Football Weekly Podcast under the nom de plume “Billeshears.”  Find links to all of his writing at tyduffy.wordpress.com.

The Gaffer, founder of EPL Talk, has been following football/soccer for more than 30 years. Born in Wales, he is a former journalist who now lives in Florida and spends his time analyzing the influence of the Premier League worldwide. His writing credentials include The Palm Beach Post, Palm Beach Illustrated, South Florida Sun-Sentinel and the now defunct Matchday Magazine.

Kartik Krishnaiyer is a lifelong fan and supporter of the beautiful game who has been attending matches in the United States since he was six years old. Between 1981 and 1983 he served as a ball boy for the NASL’s Fort Lauderdale Strikers. He then was often spotted at Lockhart Stadium supporting the Fort Lauderdale Sun of the USL (1984-85) and the Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the ASL (now USL) in the late 1980s. As far as European Football he supports Manchester City F.C. and is also a long time season ticket holder for University of Miami Hurricane Football and Basketball. He is currently the host of the Major League Soccer Talk podcast and also co-hosts the Champions Soccer Radio Network (CSRN) American Soccer Show twice weekly. He is also a frequent contributor to the 2Gs, CSRN’s Daily Headline Show and CSRN’s European Football Show. He is married and has two cats and a dog.

Dominic Mather, 16, was born in London, but moved to Bristol when he was a year old. He has worked for both the Daily Telegraph and the BBC. He has supported Liverpool for more years than he can remember and hopes that they can finally win a Championship for the first time in his life. He was hugely disappointed when Bristol City, his second team, lost the Championship play-off final last year as he would have loved to have seen the Liverpool boys visit Ashton Gate.

Michael Barany is in hospital administration in California and found football again many years after playing the game as a kid. He became passionate about Manchester United after the Glazer family’s initial attempts at a takeover, joining Shareholder’s United in a futile attempt to stave off the bid. More recently he bought a share at MyFootballClub to become “part owner” of Ebbsfleet United, taking part in club decisions and even line-up choices. You can also find him in his season-ticket seat for San Jose Earthquakes matches, or playing again in the local Sunday men’s league.

Rory Tevlin is a freelance sports journalist who covers rugby, football and Gaelic games in his native Dublin. His childhood years in London were spent flitting between Loftus Road, Selhurst Park and White Hart Lane but it was the Arsenal that captured his affections as an impressionable young fella. Studied history and politics in University and then undertook a postgraduate degree in journalism in Edinburgh. Puts in a shift for local club Park Celtic and hopes his best years are in front of him.

Alex Caulfield is an experienced sports industry professional that resides in Seattle, Washington. Originally from Leeds, Caulfield broke away from the Elland Road faction of his family to support Liverpool Football Club. He received his formal education in the United States, graduating cum laude from Kenyon College with a BA in History. Caulfield is currently completing his Masters degree in Sports Administration from Seattle University, and he has a diverse background in sport. Previously Caulfield worked for the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League, the New York Yankees, and the University of Washington Huskies. He currently serves as the Director of Public Relations for the Seattle Wolves Football Club of the United Soccer Leagues. Dedicated to developing the best amateur footballers for the American topflight, in 2009 alone the Wolves have sent players onto Major League Soccer and the USL First Division. Additionally, Caulfield works in the local Seattle media for Prost Amerika Soccer, the leading football website in the Pacific Northwest. He has been published in FourFourTwo Magazine and is a regular contributor to EPL Talk’s online media content and podcasts.

Adam Serrano is the lone futbol fan in a family where baseball and basketball are king.  Although, he only initially watched soccer to  learn the Spanish to communicate with Spanish speaking relatives, Sunday mornings watching Cruz Azul soon became a love affair that has never left his life. A native Los Angeleno, Adam is an avid supporter of Liverpool F.C. and Atletico Madrid in Europe while attempting to stay neutral in Major League Soccer. He currently resides in Berkeley, California where he is in his final semester at the University of California where he covers Bay Area Sports.
