Much as I think Benitez is a good manager, I do not think he has the know how to beat out the likes of Alex Ferguson in the English game. The players he's got, however exceptional a few of them might be, also fail to consistently develop the mentality of champions in the league. Whatever they've done in the Champions League still cannot disguise the fact that they choke when they play the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal.

Simple answer:

NO!

At least until a coaching change is made. Rafa's Premier Record considering the amount on transfers he's spent is pretty poor by any objective standard.

I love Liverpool, and even assuming they trot out Keane and Barry, sadly I don't see them making the leap.

I fully expect a repeat of last year: strong out of the gate (Sam's excellent rundown aside), stumbles in CL, refocus on CL and stumbles in EPL. They cannot take on both as currently (or assuming-ly) assembled.

Sad but true.

Pretty honest response...

1.) Since Benitez took over at Liverpool, he has a losing record (in all competitions) vs. Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.

2.) Here is how Benitez has done since he took over at Liverpool.
04-05 = 5th, 58 points.
05-06 = 3rd, 82 points.
06-07 = 3rd, 68 points.
07-08 = 4th, 76 points.

3.) Liverpool only have 6 very good players. Debates can be made (and probably expected) but Liverpool have four good players in: Mascherano, Reina, Agger, Benayoun.
Liverpool have two exceptional players in Torres and Gerrard.

4.) In Liverpool's first six league games, they have to take on Aston Villa, rival Everton at Goodison, and play Man U.
Against Man U, consider the following: Rafa has 1 win, 1 draw and 7 defeats. The goal differential in those 9 matches is Liverpool -9.

5.) Along with those difficult opening fixtures, Liverpool has to play two massive Champions League qualifiers just to get into the group stage.

With all of that being said, there is NO CHANCE Liverpool can oust Chelsea or Manchester United and win the league.

Refutes to this argument, or if you just want to chat footie, can be sent to my email: Samueltstory@gmail.com
