Middlesbrough! Win two of those home ties and defeat lowly Middlesbrough and Liverpool are a point up and GD ahead.

They’ve had spells of unimaginative attacking play (umm…January? they nearly had more shots against Newcastle in December than all three anuary fixtures combined) and spells of horrid organization in the back. In fact – add Arsenal at home – egads.

For me the real crisis has been in depth. I was following the espn gamecast of today’s match and in the preview posts, the gamecaster posted:
Out go Rafael, Giggs, Fletcher, Park and Tevez, in come O’Shea, Scholes, Carrick, Anderson and Rooney. Not a bad lot to bring in eh?

Exactly. I may be in the minority to believe that Liverpool feature an XI as good as any team, but the depth is the crisis.

    Go get good lads Rafa.

The beginning of the season starts and everybody has expectations for their team and puts forward their own arguments for why their team will accomplish.

At the beginning of this season as a United fan I wasn’t very confident. We had issues in defense and midfield and I thought sooner or later somebody will learn to exploit that and we won’t be able to dominate like we did last season.

It all came true. I mean I’m a dedicated United fan but I will admit myself many times throughout this season we were just holding onto the slimmest of leads and trying to play a ten man defense after putting a goal in.

In the end though with a terrible season and a damaged defense and midfield we still pulled through and I don’t think its a testament to anything apart from the fact that United got lucky many times during the season.

I do think this was Liverpools opportunity with Chelsea, United and Arsenal all playing atrocious football many times during the season and having few real highlights.

I believe with a proper defense and midfield in place like the previous year plus the new players bought to the club this season will make United a monstrous entity in world football the next season.

I have no worries about Liverpool since they couldn’t capture the title from United in what has been a very much hit and miss season for us.

On form like last season and this discussion wouldn’t even be taking place.

Assuming we start playing the football we played last season in the coming season then I’m not concerned with Liverpool but I’m worried about a rejuvenated Chelsea though. Hopefully they will play more like they have this season rather than the last season.

Arsenal on the other hand is always a team to keep an eye on but I think they won’t be in conention for another year or two.

Liverpool have blown their chance to kick their opponents while their down. The most they can hope for is another season where their opponents play at much lower than their capacity.

The only consolation is Steven Gerrard claiming the Player of The Year award. That would be brilliant for the player who had undoubtedly carried the team all season. A nice ending to gloss over his arrest.
