Man United One Match Away from Being Premier League Champions

rooney premier league trophy Man United One Match Away from Being Premier League ChampionsThe Premier League and Sky Sports couldn’t have planned it better. With Man United’s draw against Blackburn, the title could be decided this Saturday if United beats Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Going into the match, Man United definitely has the psychological advantage. Sir Alex Ferguson knows that Chelsea has to win to keep their chances alive of winning the Premiership. But even if Man United loses the match, the Red Devils can still lift the trophy if they win their final two games against West Ham and Wigan.

Knowing that the Blues have to win at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea will have to push players forward more than United which will allow United to take advantage of the open spaces at the back.

With so much riding on the game this Saturday, the likely result is a draw. But if Man United can beat Chelsea in the league at Stamford Bridge — the first side to achieve that in four years — they’ll have deservedly won the league based on their superior goal difference which will be impossible for Chelsea to surmount.

Yesterday at Ewood Park, Blackburn Rovers played an almost perfect match against Man United. Brad Friedel was on top of his game, saving crucially from Rooney and Ronaldo. David Bentley was marvelous, especially in the first half. The rest of the team were impressive in how they closed down Man United and prevented them from playing their normal game, although the Red Devils were definitely below par.

Luck was on Blackburn’s side too as referee Rob Styles missed the incident when Brett Emerton’s arm connected with the ball in front of the Blackburn goal. It should have been a penalty for Man United.

The one-one draw at the end was a fair result for both sides.

While American goalkeeper Brad Friedel kept Blackburn in the game with spectacular saves, the same cannot be said about fellow American Kasey Keller who was guilty for letting in both of Liverpool’s goals. Fulham now seems doomed especially after Bolton beat Middlesbrough.

All its going to take is one bad year by United domestically or in Europe and the situation the Glazers put United in will worsen very quickly.
