I personally was thrilled to see him turn the offer down. He makes more money now than he could possibly spend, he plays for one of the most storied clubs in world football, he has the opportunity to compete for prestigious trophies for as long as he stays there, and he's adored by his club's supporters.

At ManCity, he walks into a relegation fight, not much chance of European football next year, the club is looking up at a minimum of 4 clubs that play better and more like 8 or 9, and the club is years away from having any level of prestige comparable to the likes of AC Milan. It would have made no sense, apart from the money, to leave Milan for Manchester.

yep, chelsea may not have been a strong side b4 roman but we were still around the everton/aston villa level of challenging for at least some honours. They had an ok squad with 1 or 2 very good players and that allowed them to win honours. Then roman came and gave ranieri money, we got some very good players and should really have won the CL that year.
ManCity has a couple of good players but alot of trash. Honestly with manCitys money it should be easy getting some decent players in, bellamy for 14mill is stupid. Lets say that they would suffer the chelsea effect where clubs would sell at stupid prices because they knew manCity would pay, they could still get hernanes, hangeland, glen johnson and a decent DM(they have de jong but i would really aim for someone with exp who can add some steel and class, mehmet aurelio and engelaar would be willing)
I guess City thinks that with money its enough, they should aim for young players in mid tier clubs and older players in mid tier clubs to really get a chance at signing good players

I agree 100% that the new owner thought that he's become an instant Chelsea. But Chelsea went from being a lower ten table team in the early 90's to a top ten team. They had the groundwork laid out. and of course they also had Zola. And if you look back on the first moves of the Russian revolution, it was for established PL players, like Lampard. Chelsea's Kaka was Steven Gerrard, whose main reason for not making the switch was playing Champions League football.

I like Man City, they have great support, always play an attacking game and give great entertainment value but since Frank Sinatra and now the Prince of UAE they seem to lack the luster. and just seem like a charity team of all stars playing for their favorite charity of all, themselves.

And every time you sign a Robinho to play for they paycheck, one step you get from greatness. and Bellamy won't add any warm and fuzzy to the mix either.

I hope they find their way.

You say that there are only 2 routes open to Manchester City to play in europe; winning the UEFA Cup or applying to join through the Intertoto Cup.

There is no more Intertoto Cup, the new Europa Cup replaces the Uefa and the Intertoto Cups and I reckon there are 3 routes left;

To win the Uefa Cup, to qualify through their premier league placing and there is an outside chance of England gaining a Fair Play place like last season which again would go to the next placed in the league

I do totally agree though that any european football next season looks well out of City’s reach, especially if a team outside the top 5 wins the League Cup and/or the FA Cup as they would then qualify for europe taking away european qualification from the 7th and 6th placed teams in the league.
