Manchester United has confirmed that they’ve captured the signing of Dimitar Berbatov for a transfer fee believed to be worth £30.75 million. As part of the deal, Man United striker Fraizer Campbell will join Tottenham Hotspur on a season-long loan.
“This is a key signing. Dimitar is one of the best and most exciting strikers in world football,” said Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson. “His style and ability will give the team a different dimension and I’m sure he will be a popular player with the fans.”
The terms of the Berbatov contract are for four years. The Man United striker is expected to make his debut for the Red Devils against Liverpool in the September 13th match at Anfield.
According to an official statement from Tottenham Hotspur, “As part of the settlement [for allegedly tapping up Dimitar Berbatov], the club has agreed not to pursue its official complaint to the Premier League.”
While the transfer signing is a major coup for Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur looks like they’ve missed out on signing a star striker on deadline day to replace Berbatov. Campbell is an up-and-coming player but is no way an adequate replacement for Berbatov.

Havent seen Campbell play, but with him, Bent and Pavluchenko I definitely feel much better about our attacking options than I did 12 hours ago.
Spurs had United by the balls and they knew it. Fair marks to them for sticking to their guns on Berbatov’s price tag.
Even though I believe United overpaid for Berbatov, I think this ends up being a Win-Win situation for them: 1) Obviously, getting Berbatov, and 2) Campbell should have a much better chance at first team football at Spurs while on his loan than he would have this year with United.
Manucho could also being a big beneficiary out of this. I would think he will take Campbell’s role as United’s fourth striker now. Fergie raves as much about his potential as he has Campbell’s, and he had also enjoyed an excellent ACN tournament. But, like Campbell, how many minutes will he get? I wouldn’t think he’d get a lot, but he should get a few here and there as well as time in the reserve squad. That is, once he gets over his injury.
I wonder how many goals Berbatov will need to score/create to avoid the media labelling him an overpriced flop?

the independent is reporting this morning that Arsenal submitted a 14 million pound bid to liverpool for xabi alonso, the deal is yet to be decided upon but they did submit it in time, so i think we should get more information when everyone finally wakes up.
I think United’s approach for Berb is disgusting. They complained so much about Madrids approach for Ronaldo and then do exactly
the same. I cant help thinking that Madrid will now use their Robinho money to take Ronaldo to Spain. City have just done an amazing piece of business to spite United. They forced Fergie to overspend on Berbatov then effectively funded the future transfer of Ronaldo… United are nothing without Ronaldo
