Most Famous Soccer Players on Facebook

November 19th, 2007 By The Gaffer · 9 Comments

Several months ago, EPL Talk published an article featuring the MySpace pages for celebrity footballers and commentators. While MySpace’s popularity is starting to fade and more people are embracing Facebook, we thought it’d be good timing to point out which famous footballers are on the cutting edge of social networking and who have their own Facebook pages.

  1. Peter Crouch, Liverpool and England
  2. Aaron Lennon, Tottenham and England
  3. Wes Brown, Manchester United and England
  4. Gareth Bale, Tottenham and Wales
  5. Jay DeMerit, Watford and United States
  6. Charlie Sheringham, Crystal Palace
  7. Lewwis Spence, Crystal Palace
  8. Sam Ricketts, Hull City and Wales
  9. Lewin Nyatanga, Barnsley and Wales

Some of you reading this post may be second guessing whether these are in actual fact the real Facebook pages for the footballers. But based on our research and reviewing the profiles, we believe all of them are the real players.

If you know of any famous footballers that aren’t on the list, add them to the comments with a link to their page or email me at thegaffer[at]epltalk[dot]com

Looking at Gareth Bale’s friends, Benoit Assou-Ekotto is there so he could be added to your list I guess.

I don’t think Aaron Lennon’s account is really him but I could be wrong. He only has 37 friends and when you consider that Bale, his teammate at Spurs, isn’t amongst them, you kind of get a suspicious feeling. Most of his friends are also list Manchester as their networks, strange since Lennon plays in London and was born in Leeds.

Even though they’re not as famous, I know Fran Merida (reserve) from Arsenal has one, as well as Henri Lansbury (also reserve). Armand Traore and Justin Hoyte also have one.

    Fran - http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=627805811&ref=ts
    Armand - http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=675856578&ref=ts
    Justin - http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=623475906&ref=ts

I’m not positive any of these are real, but relatives and other players have posted stuff on each of their walls before.
    It’s actually Justin’s B-day tomorrow.

    Mike,

Thanks for the tips. The fascinating thing for me is that it allows football fans such as ourselves to have direct contact with footballers. I’m surprised their PR representatives or agents haven’t stepped in to prevent this.

    Cheers,
    The Gaffer

Actually now that I think about it, he couldn’t join the Collin College network unless he had a school email address, so it probably is him.
