Moyes Wins Damages From Rooney

June 3rd, 2008 By Paul Bestall --> Comments

The Everton manager, David Moyes, has been awarded compensation in his writ against Wayne Rooney for damaging his professional reputation. The case was brought over allegations made in Wayne Rooney’s 2006 Autobiography “My Story So Far” regarding how Rooney came to leave Everton and sign for Manchester United.

In the book, Moyes had been accused of leaking a confidential conversation about the players intention to leave Everton in August 2004 to the Liverpool Echo in a bid to win Everton fans’ support. The judge agreed there was no evidence to support this accusation at all.

The amount that Rooney, his co-author Hunter Davies and the books publisher, HarperCollins have had to pay is confidential but Moyes announced that he would be donating the amount to the Everton Former Players Foundation. He also said he had drawn a line under the matter and wished no ill will towards Rooney and his family and wished them every success in the future. This is believed to be the first time a Premiership Manager has sued a player.
