New 09/11 England Home Shirt Revealed

englandsidesgc3 New 09/11 England Home Shirt Revealed

Umbro has been keeping the new England home shirt under tight wraps before it’s official unveiling in the friendly against Slovakia on March 28. But several pictures have leaked of what is allegedly the shirt in question.

The web site Todo Sobre Camisetas has the scoop. Instead of incorporating the usual navy blue, the design by Umbro includes red and white only. It looks similar to an Arsenal shirt, only in reverse.

As far as England shirt designs go, this must be one of the worst home shirts ever designed. The sleeves are okay, but the front of the shirt resembles something you would see on the local AYSO pitch, not the fields of South Africa for the 2010 World Cup.

The red line around the three lions badge cheapens the design. The collar is unattractive. The placement of the Umbro logo above the England crest makes the shirt design look unbalanced.

Instead of using navy blue, the shirt uses gray as a trim color around the neck and back.

On a scale of 1 to 10, this shirt design is 3 or 4. It’ll do nothing to fill England with confidence. And it’ll certainly be a low point in the history of football shirts for England fans.

More close-up pictures below of the 2009/2010 England home shirt from Umbro:

Quite possible the worst England kit since the Euro 2000 training top kit. Won’t be buying that!

Football-Shirts.co.uk seems to think that this new shirt is a fake. A good fake (given the “copy protection” techniques used), but still a fake. I have a tendency to agree.

But, if this is for real, I think this jersey is abhorrent, and a disgrace to the quality of football the Lions have been playing recently (the Spain friendly notwithstanding). Given the fact that Nike has raised the bar on International kit manufacture (2008 Portugal away, 2008 Holland home and away, 2008 Russia home), the FA should think about dropping the Humphrey Brothers once and for all.

Hi guys, nice to see the blog making the rounds in webs as great as this one!
Im amazed by the amount of criticism this alleged new shirt has gathered around forums, almost everybody hates it! I think its a great change, considering Umbro has managed to make really original kits time after time, something thatll make a difference when you put them all together in your closet. For those who say Nike should take over, just compare the last two Brazilian kits, would that make u go spend 50 quid on the new kit?
I think blue numbers would even it out, give it a better balance, and combined with blue shorts ill look top notch….http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/3128/wnumberdq7.jpg

Eleté, thanks for uncovering these photos, and welcome to EPL Talk. Yep, you’re right. The photo you listed which includes the name and numbers in blue definitely makes a huge difference and rounds the shirt out. Looks much better that way.

Cheers,

rumour has it is that this shirt is a fake! it is known because the new england shirt is going to have the newer lighter blue england crest (which is just naff)! shame though because i quite like the sleeves, just get rid of that rubbish red line around the badge and centralise the badge and it’d be top notch in my opinion

This is NOT the new England Home kit. A glance at the Umbro site and what clues they have shown there will show the new shirt will have the original crest used before 1999, which didn’t have the ‘England’ plate added above the crest. The ‘lions’ will also be light blue and the roses more detailed and coloured as the once were. The FA site will show you what it looks like, although they retain the ‘England’ part on the crest.

The shirt also looks as if it may have a collar and be of retro in concept. Umbro’s designers have said they went to the Football Museum for inspiration and wanted to create an iconic shirt. The actual player shirts will have an embroidered match opponent/date badge added to below the crest as they once did in the ’50s.

should that shirt be genuine id rather buy a white t-shirt, be sick on it and write ‘ENGLUND’ in a black marker pen on the front. I do agree we should rid the blue from the kit through. Goes against tradition but there is no blue on the st george! It looks rather lame though.

Guys,Definate fake. go to the FA website and it shows a video of them designing the shirt. It has a massive focus on the old fashiond label of

“Tailored by Umbro in England”

This is a massive part of the design and is not in this pic atall so i can 100% guarantee this is not real.

Greetings from across the pond. I just wanted to say I hope this 10/11 kit is a fake. The current kit is just done perfectly. I was curious to see how many people know that Umbro is actually owned by Nike now. I see a lot of people wanting Nike to design the new kit, but they technically already do.
