The seventies are back in style. That’s according to Premier League new boys, Birmingham City, who recently unveiled their new home shirt for the 2007/2008 season (pictured). Instead of creating a more modern design (such as Manchester City’s
new home shirt), they’ve gone back to the past.
Their new 07/08 shirt is very similar to the ones they wore from 1971 to 1976 (see designs here). The new design is by kit manufacturer Umbro.
Personally, I disliked the design of the shirt when I first saw it. But it’s growing on me the more I look at it. It is, without a doubt, unique. And for that, it needs to be appreciated. Instead of looking like the blue shirts of Chelsea, Wigan, Everton and Portsmouth, Birmingham City stands out from the crowd. When you flip on a match on TV and see City play, they’ll be instantly recognizable.
I like it…their all-blue kit was kind of dull. This at least has a touch of flair to it. The “new” design appears to also have been used in the 97-98 season.
I love this kit as a normal blues fan i think a new style new start.
COME ON THE BLUES!!!!! It has the old penguin style and has the umbro on the side don’t think 2 much bout the FC investments thought.
Penguin style of the 70′s is back!
