Overall, I think Hughes has done a pretty good job. Eriksson had the Citizens flying high early last season, but they tanked.

You look at the majority of the signings he’s made (I’m not too sure how much he was behind the Robinho deal), and he hasn’t done half bad at all. I agree that DeJong and Kompany were good signings for the club. If Dunne can get to the level he was at last season, they could be OK at CB…though I still think that they need some help there.

It’s too bad Hughes couldn’t get Jo to perform like he has for Everton.

If City build gradually, realistically, and intelligently, there’s no reason they can’t be challenging for a top 4 spot in the near future.

They need to stop trying to look to signing established world class players, as I doubt the kind of player (who brings heart and determination) will move to City for the pay alone.

People look at the mad money Chelsea spent to build a top side, but you have to remember that they didn’t splash on established stars like Ballack and Shevchenko until they had formed a core of players to round out the squad.
