I haven’t listened to the interview yet, but many thanks. To me, Paul Scholes, is the ultimate professional and my favourite player of the current era. They don’t make players like him any more……Anelka, Drogba, Evra, Terry etc could all take a lesson in humility and dignity from Scholes.

Did you manage to get any tackling hints from him?

I usually don’t understand what he’s saying, in most of his interviews. And there are not a lot of them.

My favourite player of all time.

Having listened to the podcast, I’m sure Kartik left the interview both elated but bemused equally. Paul is never the most forthcoming of subjects as the large scale abscence of interviews testifies. He is, as PHRC pointed out above, a man not only of great talent, but of humility and dignity.

He is, without doubt, the consummate professional and reminds me of players from the Busby era. They did their talking on the field and were unassuming at all other times. What greater accolade can you have when no other than Zinedine Zidane regarded you as the most technically gifted player in Europe. I’ve no doubt Paul had a wry smile and then went back to work. Not for him the showbiz glitz that surrounds the likes of David Beckham and now Christiano Ronaldo.

It is sad to see such a great player enter the twilight of his career. Along with Ryan Giggs, he has been a great servant to club, country and the game and will be sorely missed at Old Trafford. I have so many memories of great goals scored, of anticipation and creativity and yes, even the trademark late tackles. He is for sure a blueprint of the perfect footballer in my eyes.

I hope he has proved an inspiration to those attending his soccer academy in Florida. Knowing that he leads from the front, I have no doubt he can only enhance the profile of soccer there and believe any switched on club owners may even be considering offering him a player’s contract. Seeing him on TV is one thing, witnessing him on the ball is another.

Finally, my best wishes to the USMNT and England as they proceed in the WC. Hopefully, we will all still be smiling on Monday.
