I can’t find too much fault in that 11, though it seems that consistency of form has been lacking for a lot of players.

Really a top class effort, excellent analysis. Hard to argue with that line-up. I’m looking forward to the next piece.

Baines over Evra? Really? Seems like a cute pick to me.

well done on the XI no fault in that . Though on the bench I’d have Defoe he had been essential for Spurs this season

Anyway a very good article, very enjoyable.

Ryan Shawcross? You’ve got to be kidding. I guess as a front runner for the iron boot award you had to include him…

Did anyone suggested Campbell for XI? Ryan and Sol would make an explosive duo in defense…

For me its a toss up between baines and evra. But I’d definitely have Valencia over Duff

This line up is really top notch, though some other players will be battling to take over some defending and winger spots, nice read nonetheless.

in reality, this team would get thrashed because of the lack of a holding midfield player. lampard can’t do it – it was a dismal failure when sven tried to team him up with stevie g in the center of england’s midfield. mascherano is the best in the league and possibly the world in that position but, as this is a form XI, is would suggest alex song-billong .

      Essien>>>Mascherano
just think of how many game winning goals/defensive plays Essien has had in his career

really? Drogba was a tough choice over Tevez?

    Tevez; 25 games, 15 Goals 5 assists

Drogba: 24 Games 21 Goals 6 asists [missed a month due African Nations Cup]

naijabwoy, i love essien too, but have always enjoyed him much more when he’s freed from the shackles of the holding role and allowed to use his magnificent dynamism in a more attacking way i.e. the ghana/lyon essien rather than the chelsea one. mascherano has no peer as a pure defensive midfield player (disclaimer: i am neither a liverpool nor an argentina fan!). no coincidence that the best team in the world, barcelona, would move hell or high water to get him if they could.

I think most of us would choose Essien over Masch. I think masch is too much of a hot-head to be included in my top flight XI for the entire league. Alex Song needs to also be in that consideration for defensive/holding midfielder. He constantly breaks up play and tracks back for Arsenal. That said, if Essien is in form and fit I take him over anyone for that role.
