excellent article. i have heard lots of good things about this lad benitez from respected pundits – can’t remember who, but someone said he was ‘built for the premiership’ and is a ‘real dynamo of a player’. mcleish said something that indicated the two ecuadorians – benitez and espinoza, were players he had not necessarily earmarked for recruitment – rather they were ‘given’ to him by the board. either way, it has been refreshing to see the city board put faith in the manager to the tune of £20million already this season. i believe the squad is good enough, although, the preseason has been a very worrying experience – only one goal so far, and that was against dagenham and redbridge…

I’m not confident that Alex McLeish will be able to keep Birmingham City up in the Premier League. Here’s my candidate for the first to be sacked this upcoming season unfortunately.

That’s probably a good call Gaffer. Alex McLeish is not the most likable of managers. They’re likely to piffle along at the bottom all season long. They could definitely stay up, but they’re a good candidate to be the West Brom of 09/10.

My tip for relegation is Fulham, poor team, who had a fluke season. Sorry Lyle is that the shower you support?

      Boss,

You a worried Brummage fan? Fulham is more than a fluke I most say. A good team is a good team. You can put all the pretty players on the field you can find, but if they aren’t a team you get what Newcastle and Tottenham have been the last few years. Fulham ain’t that thankfully. Think Everton with a little less dosh.

Fulham had a great year and The Spurs have tons of money, but they don’t play as hard as Fulham
