Premiership TV By The Numbers

I thought it’d be interesting to take a look at the number of English Premier League matches shown on TV in the US during the first week of this Premiership season and compare it to a similar week from last year. Here’s what I discovered:

  • 20% increase in number of EPL matches shown on Fox Soccer Channel*
  • 66% increase in number of live EPL matches shown on Fox Soccer Channel**
  • 140% increase in number of EPL matches shown on FSC & Setanta combined (compared to just FSC last year)***
  • 233% increase in number of live EPL matches shown on FSC & Setanta combined (compared to just FSC last year)****

*Number has increased from 5 to 6; ** Number has increased from 3 to 5; *** Number has increased from 5 to 12; **** Number has increased from 3 to 10.

Is there any way you can find ratings information? I’ll be curious to see the increase in number of American EPL viewers from year to year.

Rampart,

I’ll see what I can find, but it’s usually difficult to find the information. But I will ask the Fox Soccer Channel exec I plan on interviewing next week for an upcoming Podcast episode.

Cheers,
The Gaffer
