Forget the league, was Giggs even the best Manchester United player this year? Ahead of Vidic, Rooney, Van der Sar, etc? Was he more impressive than Jagielka and Lescott? Gerrard? It just doesn't add up. Everyone loves to hate the media for their selections of "team of the year" but this time, the players have fouled up. There have been numerous occasions he has probably deserved it but no part of me can say that he has been the best player in the league this season. Surely Torres/Gerrard/Ronaldo/Lampard/Ferdininand and many more have been better players and therefore would have been more deserving of the award. I agree with Dean and Ethan, Jagielka should have been mentioned and Giggs could have taken home a merit award. I thought it was scandalous that Giggsy landed it this season. Is a contribution simply about goals and blocks. Or can contribution be something intangible like team spirit, morale, and leadership?
