Aye, it was meant as a compliment not a slap in the face.

Cheers,

Upon reflection the comment may have been entirely well intended to complement the American fans. If so, thank you. We need it.

I still think McClaren is a great manager who has the unfortunate place in history in England which he doesn't deserve. He was at the wrong place at the wrong time. While, the MLS and USSF don't always work hand in hand, they seem to work together better than the FA and the EPL, which in my opinion is hurting Enlgand's chances on the world stage.

Please excuse my lack of an exact quote above, it should of been "welcomed with open arms". I will keep my point however.

I guess McClaren will be coaching again in a year. He would be a big fish for the MLS and could be a hit in the US market.

Eurosnob alert, "only in American can he get a` standing ovation". Backhand slap at the American soccer fan. McClaren is a world class coach with a wealth of coaching experience. American's who know the game may truly appreciate the impossible situation he was put in as English manager. The American fan appreciates any man put in a no win post who does his best. McClaren may have made mistakes but it was not lack of effort.

I have a good source ( a reporter of some note) who tells me McClaren was actively pursuing one of the Major League Soccer vacancies. However, money was an issue as he wanted Rudd Gullit money and this club doesn't see him as a Gullit type hire.

I am glad McClaren seems at ease. English fans and the media are ridiculous but the reality as we discussed months ago on the EPL Talk show is that the structural deficiencies in English Football and failure of the FA to solve them will doom any manager who takes the post. Only time will tell whether Capello can rise above this.
