The Damned United Movie Trailer: Now Available For US Release

by The Gaffer on August 2, 2009 · 10 comments

The Damned United will be making its cinematic debut in the United States on a limited release this September 25, 2009 in New York City and Los Angeles.

And now Sony Pictures has officially launched the movie trailer for the film. It’s quite a bit different than the UK version. The US version focuses more on the dynamic of Brian Clough’s battle to unseat Don Revie from the power of being the best and most successful manager in English football at that time.

Sony Pictures has also launched a website to coincide with the upcoming launch of the film in the United States at http://www.sonyclassics.com/thedamnedunited/ The number of features is extremely limited right now, but I’m sure more information will be added in the next few weeks.

Do you have any idea if this film will be realesed in the DFW area or just LA and NY. Keep us updated as this film gets closer to being relesed.

Just have the NY and LA dates for now. If the films do well in those two metro areas, there’s a good chance for a wider release. Come on you New Yorkers and Los Angeles residents. Sell out the theatres so the rest of us will have a chance to see the film in the movie theatres.

Cheers,
The Gaffer

Our whole crew is planning a trip to see it. We will make it a field trip of sorts. We will do our part for sure.

My guess is it’ll be played in a Laemmele or a Landmark theatre for all you Los Angeles residents. The Arclight might be another possibility but I doubt it would be a big enough draw for them for a niche movie.

Looks like a sleeper cult movie hit here in the US. Has some good connections with a potential audience already. English football fans will want to see it and the lead actor Michael Sheehan has had some very good reviews here. I think it makes some money and gains some attention. He was great in both the Queen and Frost Nixon.

I had to turn my ears off at “soccer coach.”
We even ruin film trailers.

They did that with Bend It Like Beckham dubbing the mother telling her daughter “NO MORE SOCCER!” when clearly she live in England and it is called football.

I like Michael Sheen but he needs to stop doing mimicry. To me Mark Rylance would have been pitch-perfect in terms of look for Clough. But Clough’s story is so much fun.
