College Football is probably the best comparison to not just the EPL but all of English Football. Everyone big and small has a team. A few big teams dominate, but everyone is involved in some conference or league that they can win.

A local USA note on English football. My local paper the Chicago Tribune had the tables for both the EPL and The Championship today as well as a article on the EPL final action of 2008. This is a great middle American conservative paper giving ink to English football. Enough said!

Watching games mostly on Fox Soccer, this is one big difference I've noticed between EPL and Serie A. The closest sport I see in the US to English Football is college football, especially in the southern US.
