Van Basten just has issues...the dutch NT in general can't get to an event without some sort of controversy. The surprising thing about Van Basten is that he tried a few different formations in recent friendlies perhaps to fit Seedorf into the team... The back four on paper doesn't strike me with confidence but they have been quite strong in qualifying (and yes i understand its only qualifying). They had problems scoring in qualifying though which is a concern considering the talent available is stacked in the attacking front. There's just a clash of ideologies and philosophies between Seedorf and some of the other veterans on the team and Marco van Basten, who clearly favors the younger players on his roster, and Seedorf didn't want to be a distraction in camp. Van Basten isn't "stunned" by this, I don't care what he says, precedent shows that although he may have picked Seedorf, Seedorf wasn't going to get a game in the center of midfield and it would've been the younger guys like Snejider who would've played.
