The government’s rejection of Everton’s plans to move the club from Goodison Park to a stadium outside Liverpool, in Kirkby, is the best thing that could have happened for Everton FC and its supporters.
Financially speaking, the rejection of the Kirkby plans is a massive blow to Everton. The club has allegedly spent millions to pay consultants to champion the move. And the long-term financial implications are even greater as the club continues to suffer from not having modern matchday facilities to generate massive streams of money from corporations.
The reason why the Kirkby rejection is good news for Everton is because of fate. The blue half of Merseyside has a proud history which has been deeply intertwined with their rivals across the park at Anfield. In fact, Everton’s home used to be Anfield before a dispute forced the club to move down the road. The owner of Anfield then created Liverpool FC.
Even before Everton played at Goodison, Stanley Park was their home. The irony is that where Everton played is now near the site where Liverpool planned to build their new stadium.
The logical choice for both Everton and Liverpool is to build one world-class stadium that all of the people of Merseyside can be proud of. The two clubs aren’t as close as they once were, but it seems like fate that the two clubs should work together and create a legacy that will be remembered in the city for hundreds of years.
With the current economic crisis, it only makes sense from a financial perspective for both clubs to share a ground. In fact, just this morning Everton’s chief executive has said that Everton would consider a ground-sharing agreement with Liverpool. The ball is now in Liverpool’s court to make a wise choice and to realize that by the two clubs working together they’ll both benefit. The time is now. Let’s trust they’ll make the right decision.
Fittingly, Everton plays Liverpool in the Merseyside derby in the early Sunday kickoff at 1:30pm GMT/8:30am ET. The game will be shown on Setanta Sports in the United States.
What a load of Rubbish. A proud History…. living in the past KEIOC, Everton have fallen behind over the years and when an oportunity came along to build a new ground with fantastic facilities a few Miles from goodison and in all honesty if it was built like the pictures, one of the best looking grounds in the country, KEIOC protested….. beecause of history…. your begining to sound like the Liverpool fans now.
the only problem i see with a ground sharing is the amount of games that’s likely to be played, the pitch will look like bog if every year we have as much rain as we’ve had this year, maybe a covered roof would solve the problem and also make it pleasurable to watch a game without getting soaked when it rains
Lets see what KEIOC have to say when the only viable option let for Everton is to groundshare!
Building a Giuseppe Meazza/San Siro type stadium for both clubs to share would make financial sense and would be totally reasonable. Fortunately, my support for Liverpool Football Club is based on emotion and passion so I hope it never sees the light of day.
ive allways opposed groundsharing with the shite! but now i think its the way forward for us,we don,t have to like them just see them twice a year as we do now,i know it sticks in the throat but were skint otherwise i wouldn,t be writing this.

I do NOT want to share with the RS no matter what. What really pisses me off, is when the RS fans think it’s only the blue’s who will benefit from a ground share, when we all know they’re in just as big a pickle as us.
I think you will find building a council owned San Siro type stadium wouldn’t be all that brilliant.
Inter plan to move to their own stadium in 2014 where they will more than treble their revenues and not be subjected to rent !
Plus the club is more attractive to investors if it owns its own assets. They can be used as collateral if needed in bad times.

For all those up in arms about the move to Kirby being cancelled … no good blaming the fans who opposed the move. It was the government that turned it down because the whole retail plan was too big and rode roughshod over planning laws.
Also, I have still yet to hear HOW we were going to benefit from additional revenue. Where were the extra fans going to come from when the transport plan would ensure it would be a lot more difficult to get to the new ground and absolutely diabolical trying to get home from it?
How much extra revenue was supposed to come from the magical extra 10 thousand fans? I remember reading an extra £6m for transfers. Wow, that’ll ensure continued dining at the Premier leagues top table, won’t it?
Yes, we need to move but this was an ill advised plan from the start.
Traitors, you, calling yourselves Evertonians, have helped undermine the club’s entire future. To share with Liverpool is completely unacceptable to any real supporter.

It seems to me the only reason why Goodison can not be improved is that we would loose revenue whilst it is being completed?
Well why dont we move out for 1 year whilst the work is being done and then move back!
We would still get revenue from the games and could get i suspect Goodison to a level that is acceptable in the modern game, it may not be an old trafford but would be our unique home for many years to come.
For the sake of the long term unity of the EFC family I’m glad the Govt decision took it out of all our hands.
But in the cold light of day the depressing truth is that we are back to where we were – no money, no proactive partners. I just wish LCC were as bothered about us as KMBC and will we find another funding partner? In the context of world wide credit crunch and likes of Dubai possibly defaulting and needing a fire sale of assets, who will now look at us as an attractive investment proposition. So I find all the talk of alternatives unrealistic.
This site has repeatedly exposed EFC’s precarious finances and rightly queried its funding contribution to DK. So how on earth does it become feasible to fund any alternative – be it redeveloping GP, ground sharing, Speke, LCC’s bin lorry park or whatever?
