It is all about the youth believing the hype and their general lack of maturity.
The talent remains it is only being pushed back as they relish the popularity and indulge in wine woman and song. The media must take some responsibility here in that they struggle to find any talent in the diminished Engliah pool of talent on the world scene and build it up.
Wes Brown is a great example of a true English talent that has been overlooked by the media and needs to be talked about.

If you are a sports fan you get this. Baseball fans know especially well the big market stresses. Ask Joba how he fared in new yankee stadium. Now imagine all of England doing that. Football(Soccer) is a low scoring game with huge sets of streaks of finishing, pace, fitness. Much like baseball were you get can in a slump, the whole world will feel it you are. The English however, are particularly snoody and demanding. They boo there own side now and feel entitled to be great. It is a gimme gimme gimme world that almost hurts young english players to come up through the premier league.

Never said it was profound, just trying to give Wolcott's critics a little perspective. If Wolcott was rubbish, he'd be where Freddy Adu is now.

By comparison, Freddy Adu, who's roughly the same age and an equally hyped youngster (made the cover of U.S. sporting magazines at 14 when most soccer players are lucky to get a paragraph somewhere in the middle), isn't even in the first team with AS Monaco. Wolcott is first choice for a top-4 club when he isn't injured.
